The Ocean City is actually situated on a barrier island and that is surrounded by the Strathmere section of the Upper Township to the South, also the Marmora section of this Upper Township to the west side and the Somers Point, and also the Egg Harbour Township That falls across the Great Egg Harbor Bay to the North. The eastern side of this ocean city surrounds the Atlantic Ocean. This beach is the one which is replenished many times, so it has approximately been replenished more than 40 times since the year 1951. The major reason for this replenishment was the damage caused by different extreme and violent conditions such as a storm or erosion. Due to extremely insane erosion. This place received a replenishment of 5 million dollars in 1982 and this had largely disappeared in two and a half months. Since the year 1992, the United States Army Corps of engineers has handled responsibility for the beach maintenance projects and it often adds 1100000 cubic yards almost every three years. And for this purpose, the local shop area of about 5000 feet is used offshore the Great Egg Harbor Inlet. The Water Resources Development act of 1986 was authorized for the funding of this project. And that is why the most recent replenishment was just done in 2017. There are many parks in this place and according to an estimate, this city utilizes about 39% of its land area that is 1716 acres for parks and recreational purposes. This thing includes about 1300 acres of protected and maintained dunes and wetlands.
